The DJI Mini 4K weighs 249g, records 4K/30fps video on a 3-axis mechanical gimbal, and sits at the lowest price point in DJI's camera drone range. It is the entry into proper aerial video: stabilised 4K, GPS-assisted hovering, and up to 31 minutes of flight time, in an airframe light enough to travel anywhere without registration exams in most regions.

At 249g it sits in the A1 category, which allows flight closer to people than heavier drones, and the 3-axis mechanical gimbal, rather than the digital stabilisation found on cheaper drones, is what separates its footage from toy-grade video. As a camera drone over 100g, it does require registration before outdoor flight

Camera and Stabilisation

The Mini 4K records 4K/30fps video through a 1/2.3-inch sensor, delivering crisp, detailed footage a significant step above the 1080p output of budget drones. A 3-axis motorised gimbal physically stabilises the camera, holding footage smooth in wind where digitally stabilised drones produce jitter.

Creative options extend beyond straight video: panorama, AEB, 4x digital zoom, RAW photo capture, and the Boomerang mode within QuickShots. QuickShots automate cinematic moves like Dronie and Circle with a single tap, producing polished results without flight skill.

Flight, Range and Safety

Every specification below carries a practical benefit for a new pilot:

  • Fly up to 31 minutes per Intelligent Flight Battery, capturing a full session rather than a rushed few minutes
  • Transmit up to 10km with DJI O2 enhanced Wi-Fi, holding a stable feed with strong anti-interference performance
  • Resist wind up to 10.7 m/s (Level 5), keeping footage stable in the breezy conditions common across the UK
  • Fly up to 4,000m maximum takeoff altitude, extending the range of usable locations
  • Hover precisely with GPS and downward vision sensors, holding position steadily for framing a shot
  • Return automatically with Return-to-Home, bringing the drone back safely if signal or battery runs low

Add the 360° Propeller Guard for Indoor Flight

An optional 360° Propeller Guard fully wraps the propellers, adding protection for flying indoors or in cluttered spaces with obstacles nearby. It is a worthwhile addition for anyone learning to fly, or filming in tighter environments where prop contact is a risk.

A Note on Storage

The Mini 4K has no internal storage. Without a microSD card inserted, it can only capture single low-quality photos or 720p video stored to your phone. A microSD card is effectively essential, unlocking full 4K recording and RAW photo capture, so factor one into your purchase if it is not already included.

Which Package Should You Buy?

The standard Mini 4K includes the aircraft, the RC-N1 controller, and a single battery, the lowest-cost way into 4K aerial video.

The Mini 4K Fly More Combo adds two extra batteries, a Two-Way Charging Hub, spare propellers, a propeller holder, and a shoulder bag. The extra batteries alone take a single outing from one short flight to a full session, making the combo the stronger buy for most people.

Accessories and Spares

  • Extend flight time with additional Mini 4K Intelligent Flight Batteries, adding up to 31 minutes each
  • Add a microSD card, effectively essential given the lack of internal storage
  • Fit the 360° Propeller Guard for safer indoor and close-quarters flying
  • Cover accidental damage, including crashes and water, with DJI Care Refresh

UK Flight Requirements

From 1 January 2026, UK rules require both a Flyer ID and an Operator ID to fly any drone weighing 100g or more that has a camera. The Mini 4K falls into this category, so you will need both before flying outdoors. The Flyer ID is free, earned by passing the CAA's online theory test and valid for five years; the Operator ID is a low-cost annual registration.

The sub-250g weight still carries an advantage: it places the Mini 4K in the A1 category, permitting flight closer to people than heavier drones allow, which is a large part of why the Mini range suits beginners and travellers. Confirm current requirements against the CAA's Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Service before flying, as rules continue to change.

How the Mini 4K Compares

The Mini 4K is DJI's most affordable camera drone, built for a first-time buyer who wants stabilised 4K video without a large outlay. Against the Mini 3, the Mini 4K uses a smaller sensor and shorter-range O2 transmission, but comes in at a lower price. Against the Lito series, the newer Lito models add obstacle sensing the Mini 4K lacks.

Buyers wanting obstacle avoidance, a larger sensor, and longer range should look at the Mini 4 Pro or the flagship Mini 5 Pro. The Mini 4K's strength is delivering genuine 4K aerial video at the lowest possible entry price.

Protect Your Mini 4K With Drone Safe Repair Refresh

Repair Refresh is our in-house protection plan, an alternative to DJI Care Refresh handled directly by our own team in Chichester. A manufacturer's warranty covers faults; it does not cover the crashes, water damage, and flyaways that account for most real-world drone damage. Repair Refresh closes that gap, without sending your Mini 4K away to DJI.

  • Covers accidental damage that a standard warranty does not
  • Handled directly by our own engineers in Chichester, not routed through the manufacturer
  • Available on the Mini 4K and across the DJI range at the point of purchase
  • Speak to our team to compare Repair Refresh against DJI Care Refresh and find the right cover for you

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a licence to fly the DJI Mini 4K in the UK?

Yes. Since 1 January 2026, any camera drone weighing 100g or more requires both a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. At 249g the Mini 4K needs both before you fly outdoors. The Flyer ID is free via the CAA's online test; the Operator ID is a low-cost annual registration. Its sub-250g weight still allows flight closer to people under the A1 category.

Does the Mini 4K have obstacle avoidance?

No. The Mini 4K uses GPS and downward vision sensors for stable hovering and Return-to-Home, but does not have the forward or omnidirectional obstacle sensing found on the Mini 4 Pro or the Lito series. Fly it with line of sight in open surroundings.

Do I need a microSD card?

Effectively, yes. The Mini 4K has no internal storage, and without a card it only captures low-quality photos or 720p video. A microSD card unlocks full 4K recording and RAW photos.

How long does the Mini 4K fly on one battery?

Up to 31 minutes per Intelligent Flight Battery under DJI's test conditions. Real-world UK flying with wind reduces this, which is why the Fly More Combo with three batteries is the practical choice.

Is the Fly More Combo worth it?

For most buyers, yes. The two extra batteries take a single outing from one flight to a full session, and the charging hub and bag add practical value.

Is the Mini 4K good for beginners?

Yes. The 3-axis gimbal, GPS hovering, Return-to-Home, and QuickShots make it straightforward to fly and to get good footage from, at the lowest price in the range.

Does it come with a warranty?

Yes. All new, sealed DJI products from Drone Safe Store carry a 24-month warranty. For accidental damage cover, add DJI Care Refresh or our own Drone Safe Repair Refresh, handled directly by our Chichester team.
