DJI Mini 3: 4K HDR Camera Drone Under 250g With 38-Minute Flight Time
The DJI Mini 3 weighs under 249g, records 4K HDR video on a 1/1.3-inch sensor, and flies up to 38 minutes on a single battery, the longest flight time in DJI's Mini range. It is built for travel and everyday shooting: a larger sensor for genuine low-light quality, True Vertical Shooting for social content, and a folding airframe light enough for a backpack.
At under 249g it sits in the A1 category, which allows flight closer to people than heavier drones, and the 1/1.3-inch sensor, notably larger than the entry-level Mini 4K, is what delivers its cleaner detail and stronger dynamic range. As a camera drone over 100g, it does require registration before outdoor flight.

Camera and Image Quality
The Mini 3 records 4K HDR video through a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor with dual native ISO and chip-level HDR, capturing true-to-life colour by day and clear, detailed footage as light fades. An f/1.7 aperture and larger 2.4μm 4-in-1 pixels gather more light than smaller-sensor drones, holding fine detail in low-light conditions where cheaper models produce noise.
4x zoom extends framing options, letting you scout a scene or emphasise a distant subject without moving the aircraft. Panorama modes, including 180°, Wide Angle, and Sphere, pack more of a scene into a single frame.
True Vertical Shooting for Social Content
An innovative gimbal design rotates the camera to a true vertical position, capturing full-resolution portrait footage ready for social platforms, rather than cropping a horizontal frame and losing quality. The same gimbal allows a large-angle upward tilt for creative low-angle compositions.
Flight, Range and Safety
Every specification below carries a practical benefit:
- Fly up to 38 minutes per Intelligent Flight Battery, the longest in the Mini range, extending a single outing significantly
- Transmit up to 10km with DJI O2 digital video, holding a stable feed with strong anti-interference performance
- Resist wind up to 10.7 m/s, keeping footage steady in the breezy conditions common across the UK
- Hover precisely with GPS and downward vision sensors, holding position steadily for framing a shot
- Return automatically with Return-to-Home, bringing the drone back safely if signal or battery runs low
- Capture complex moves with QuickShots, Dronie, Circle, Helix, Rocket, and Boomerang, with one tap
Which Package Should You Buy?
The Mini 3 Drone Only suits anyone who already owns a compatible DJI RC or RC-N1 controller from a Mini 3 or Mini 4 Pro.
The Mini 3 with DJI RC includes the DJI RC controller with its own built-in screen, removing any need to connect a phone.
The Fly More Combo adds two extra batteries, the charging hub, and a bag with the RC-N1 controller, the lower-cost route to longer flying sessions.
The Fly More Combo with DJI RC is the most complete package, pairing three batteries and the charging hub with the DJI RC screen controller. For most buyers wanting the full experience, this is the one to choose.
Note on Battery Compatibility
The Mini 3 uses the Mini 3 Pro Intelligent Flight Battery, and is compatible with the Mini 3 Pro accessories range, including the Two-Way Charging Hub, Propeller Holder, ND Filters Set, and Shoulder Bag. The standard battery delivers up to 38 minutes; The standard battery delivers up to 38 minutes; the higher-capacity Intelligent Flight Battery Plus extends this further but pushes the aircraft over 250g, which removes the A1 near-people privilege. Registration is required either way.

Protect Your Mini 3 With Drone Safe Repair Refresh
Repair Refresh is our in-house protection plan, an alternative to DJI Care Refresh handled directly by our own team in Chichester. A manufacturer's warranty covers faults; it does not cover the crashes, water damage, and flyaways that account for most real-world drone damage. Repair Refresh closes that gap, without sending your Mini 3 away to DJI.
- Covers accidental damage that a standard warranty does not
- Handled directly by our own engineers in Chichester, not routed through the manufacturer
- Available on the Mini 3 and across the DJI range at the point of purchase

UK Flight Requirements
From 1 January 2026, UK rules require both a Flyer ID and an Operator ID to fly any drone weighing 100g or more that has a camera. The Mini 3 falls into this category, so you will need both before flying outdoors. The Flyer ID is free, earned by passing the CAA's online theory test and valid for five years; the Operator ID is a low-cost annual registration.
The sub-250g weight still carries an advantage: it places the Mini 3 in the A1 category, permitting flight closer to people than heavier drones allow, which is a large part of why the Mini range suits travellers and content creators. Note that fitting the higher-capacity Battery Plus takes the aircraft over 250g, which removes the A1 near-people privilege, though registration is required either way. Confirm current requirements against the CAA's Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Service before flying, as rules continue to change.
How the Mini 3 Compares
The Mini 3 sits between the entry-level Mini 4K and the flagship Mini Pro models. Against the Mini 4K, the Mini 3 offers a larger 1/1.3-inch sensor, 4K HDR, longer flight time, and True Vertical Shooting, at a higher price. It does not have obstacle avoidance, which is the key upgrade found on the Mini Pro line.
Buyers wanting obstacle sensing and advanced tracking should look at the Mini 4 Pro or the flagship Mini 5 Pro. The Mini 3's strength is class-leading flight time and a large sensor at a mid-range price.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a licence to fly the DJI Mini 3 in the UK?
Yes. Since 1 January 2026, any camera drone weighing 100g or more requires both a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. At under 249g the Mini 3 needs both before you fly outdoors. The Flyer ID is free via the CAA's online test; the Operator ID is a low-cost annual registration. Its sub-250g weight still allows flight closer to people under the A1 category, though fitting the Battery Plus takes it over 250g and removes that near-people privilege.
What is the difference between the RC-N1 and DJI RC controllers?
The RC-N1 uses a connected phone as the screen, keeping the price down. The DJI RC has its own built-in screen, removing any dependence on a phone. Most buyers prefer the DJI RC for convenience.
Does the Mini 3 have obstacle avoidance?
No. The Mini 3 uses GPS and downward vision sensors for stable hovering and Return-to-Home, but does not have the forward or omnidirectional obstacle sensing found on the Mini 3 Pro, Mini 4 Pro, or Mini 5 Pro. Fly it with line of sight in open surroundings.
How long does the Mini 3 fly on one battery?
Up to 38 minutes per standard Intelligent Flight Battery, the longest in the Mini range under DJI's test conditions. Real-world UK flying with wind reduces this, which is why the Fly More Combos are popular.
Is the Fly More Combo worth it?
For most buyers, yes. The two extra batteries take a single outing from one flight to a full session, and the charging hub and bag add practical value.
Can the Mini 3 shoot vertical video?
Yes. True Vertical Shooting rotates the gimbal to a full portrait orientation, capturing social-ready footage sharper than a cropped horizontal frame.
What is the difference between DJI Care Refresh and Drone Safe Repair Refresh?
DJI Care Refresh is DJI's own accidental damage plan. Repair Refresh is our in-house alternative, handled directly by our team in Chichester rather than routed through DJI. Both cover accidental damage the standard warranty does not, and our team can explain which suits you best.
Does it come with a warranty?
Yes. All new, sealed DJI products from Drone Safe Store carry a 24-month warranty. For accidental damage cover, add DJI Care Refresh or our own Drone Safe Repair Refresh, handled directly by our Chichester team.
