The DJI Flip weighs under 249g and carries a 1/1.3-inch sensor, 4K/60fps HDR video, and DJI's first foldable full-coverage propeller guard. Camera and Image Quality
The 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor uses 2.4μm 4-in-1 pixels, an f/1.7 aperture, and Dual Native ISO Fusion to capture 48MP stills with wide dynamic range and detail held in both highlights and shadows.
4K/60fps HDR video renders high-contrast scenes such as sunrise and sunset in lifelike quality, and an optional 10-bit D-Log M colour format gives greater latitude for grading in post-production. SmartPhoto combines HDR imaging and scene recognition automatically, and the remote control adds up to 4x zoom for framing a subject from distance.
Fly It Your Way
The Flip supports four control methods, so it suits both a complete beginner and someone wanting manual control:
- Launch from your palm with no controller, unfolding the arms to power on and take off instantly
- Control single-handed through the DJI Fly app over Wi-Fi Direct on a vertical screen interface
- Pilot hands-free with voice control by saying "Hey Fly", useful mid-activity when your hands are occupied
- Fly manually with the RC-N3 or RC 2 controller for full stick control and professional framing
Tracking and Shooting Modes
AI Subject Tracking keeps a subject framed automatically through movement, using ActiveTrack and DirectionTrack to hold the shot during activity such as hiking, cycling, or climbing.
Six intelligent shooting modes, Dronie, Circle, Rocket, Spotlight, Helix, and Boomerang, automate cinematic camera moves a beginner could not fly manually. FocusTrack, QuickShots, MasterShots, and Hyperlapse extend the range further, and the DJI Fly app applies automatic beautification to exported footage.

The Flip's obstacle protection is downward infrared sensing plus the physical guard, rather than the full omnidirectional sensing found on the Mini 4 Pro. The guard compensates for close-quarters flight, but the Flip is best flown with line of sight in open surroundings.

UK Flight Requirements
From 1 January 2026, UK rules require both a Flyer ID and an Operator ID to fly any drone weighing 100g or more that has a camera. The Flip falls into this category, so you will need both before flying outdoors. The Flyer ID is free, earned by passing the CAA's online theory test and valid for five years; the Operator ID is a low-cost annual registration.
The sub-250g weight still carries an advantage: it places the Flip in the A1 category, permitting flight closer to people than heavier drones allow, which, combined with the propeller guards, is a large part of why the Flip suits beginners, families, and travel. Confirm current requirements against the CAA's Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Service before flying, as rules continue to change. The Flip is recommended for users aged 16 and above.
